Music : New release from AIX Records: The Afro Cuban Latin Jazz Project

New release from AIX Records: The Afro Cuban Latin Jazz ProjectAIX Records has finished recording of "The Afro Cuban Latin Jazz Project".

Back in December of 2006, we recorded another project brought to us by Peggy Jo Oliva of Lucumi Productions. I'm still working on the first one, AC Timba...but the new one demanded a pass to the front of the line. Featuring Grammy-nominated drummer Raúl Pineda, percussionist Jésus Díaz and pianist Gustavo Ramírez, this septet plays a flavor of Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz that is rhythmically complex, melodically memorable and high energy. I used the title track at one of the EHX demonstration room last year and received lots of positive feedback.

Music : New Hiromi SACD released: "Beyond Standard"

Hiromi’s supergroup, Sonicbloom, crafts a melting pot of jazz, classical, fusion, standards and even a traditional Japanese tune.

Hiromi’s supergroup, Sonicbloom, has shattered the formula of making records written solely by the celebrated pianist/composer. Their latest outing, Beyond Standard finds Tony Grey (bass), Martin Valihora (drums), and Dave “Fuze” Fiuczynski (guitar and otherworldly sounds) assisting Hiromi in crafting unique versions of familiar tunes such as Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm,” Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “My Favorite Things” and even Jeff Beck’s “Led Boots.”

Music : Music 2.0

Music 2.0Although they offer many improvements, new digital music formats often face an uphill battle replacing tried and true legacy formats such as MP3.

This month the Motion Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) will meet in Germany to deliberate whether to make MT9, a new digital audio format commercially known as Music 2.0, an international standard.

MT9 was developed by South Korea-based Audizen, and works by splitting an audio file into six separate channels, such as vocals, bass, guitar and others. Music players can then raise or lower the volume on specific channels similar to the way a producer uses a mixing board. MT9’s inventors say the new format will replace MP3 as the standard for all digital music, according to reports in the Korea Times.

Music : With the Music Industry Switching to Downloads, Is the World Ready for a $40

New acoustic music label, Blue Coast Records, challenges the current trend and declares value is in the ears of the Discerning Listener.

Blue Coast Records and Burnside Distribution announced the debut of the critically acclaimed music disc, Blue Coast Collection, making it now available via brick and mortar and online music outlets for the price of $40 USD. While some have balked at the cost of the disc, the audiophile community has embraced it as some of the most realistic acoustic music recorded to date. Using a proprietary recording technique, Extended Sound Environment (E.S.E.), the newly founded San Francisco label creates audio that is holographic. The release is an SACD hybrid disc that has the stereo CD layer, a surround sound SACD layer and an SACD two-track layer on one disc.

Music : Norwegian label 2L releases Blu-ray/SACD music title

Norwegian label 2L releases Blu-ray/SACD music titleYesterday the Norwegian record label 2L released its first ever Blu-Ray record.

“Divertimenti” is a milestone in many ways. It is the label’s 50th record release and it marks the twentieth anniversary of the Trondheim soloist whose concert in Selbu Church is captured on “Divertimenti.” A label always at the forefront technologically, 2L (Linberg Lyd) found the occasion right to make “Divertimenti” a milestone also in format.

The Blu-ray technology makes use of five separate sound tracks, which entails a complex recording and mixing process conditioned by very sophisticated equipment. 2L has cooperated with equipment manufacturers and the record now available is the fruit of a combined effort opening up new vistas of sound rendition. The sound is, as with Blu-ray images, like nothing you’ve heard before. Each instrument is clearly positioned, creating a multidimensional listening experience of utmost clarity. But since very few so far have the proper home equipment to actually play Blu-ray discs, the release also includes a SACD disc, playable on all standard CD players and computers.

Music : The Dark Side of the Moog XI by Pete Namlook & Klaus Schulze in DTS 5.1

The Dark Side of the Moog XI by Pete Namlook & Klaus Schulze in DTS 5.1XI album in Pete Namlook & Klaus Schulze "The Dark Side of the Moog" series now coming out with multichannel sound in DTS-CD 5.1!

This CD is a further step in the collaboration of Klaus and Pete. The “old” collaboration parameters are expanded with very intense and emotional moments that take the listener on a journey of a new quality. Monumental, spacy, environmental and beat-oriented. The “new” way removes limitations.
The Dark Side of the Moog up to “X” was a nice journey through the history of “Space-Music” in combination with the innovative music of today. “XI” is clearly a step further. Using a lot of analog, digital and futuristic virtual equipment combined with vast computer power to generate a sound that goes beyond its predecessors. For the first time “The Dark Side of the Moog” comes in DTS 5.1 Surround. The monumental power of “The Heart of Our Nearest Star” and it’s imaginary scenery is clearly made for big sound systems.

CD tracks: The Heart of Our Nearest Star Part I - IV 56.10 min
DTS 5.1 Music Disc/Stereo 2CD. For compatibility reasons (to listen to the music in the car or at your friend’s or if you don’t own a DTS capable 5.1 Surround System) we included a stereo CD version in the double CD-pack.
